Sexual stimulation is still needed. The label describes sildenafil as enhancing the nitric oxide signal released during sexual stimulation.

Who should not take sildenafil

The Viagra and Cialis labels list the same hard stops. Do not use them with organic nitrates in any form, or with a guanylate cyclase stimulator such as riociguat. Do not use them if sex is inadvisable because of your heart. Get emergency care for an erection that lasts more than 4 hours. Stop and get care for a sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes, or a sudden decrease or loss of hearing.

The label says to start at 25 mg with alpha blockers, and not to exceed 25 mg in 48 hours with ritonavir. Viagra is not indicated for women.

Sildenafil side effects

Most common side effects (2% or more) on the Viagra label: headache, flushing, dyspepsia, abnormal vision, nasal congestion, back pain, myalgia, nausea, dizziness and rash. On the Cialis label: headache, dyspepsia, back pain, myalgia, nasal congestion, flushing and pain in limb.

Abnormal vision on the label is mostly a temporary color tinge, light sensitivity or blurred vision. In one label study, Viagra 50 mg did not add to the blood-pressure drop from alcohol at 0.5 g/kg (mean peak blood alcohol 0.08%) in healthy volunteers.

Generic Viagra, brand Viagra and a compounded tablet

Brand Viagra and generic sildenafil are FDA-approved tablets with the same active ingredient. The Mendoxa tablet is compounded: sildenafil plus tadalafil and apomorphine in one rapid-dissolve tablet. It is not FDA-approved, and it is not two brand pills taken together. See sildenafil and tadalafil in one tablet and Viagra cost.
